Welcome!
Hi there! I’m Maggie Porter, and if you would’ve told my 20-year-old self I’d one day be spending my days elbow-deep in flour with a house that always smells like warm vanilla and brown butter—I probably would’ve laughed (and offered you a Pop-Tart). But here I am, 37 years old, living in a cozy little farmhouse just outside Asheville, North Carolina, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
I started baking out of necessity—honestly, it was cheaper to make my own birthday cakes than buy one from the grocery store. But something magical happened the first time I pulled a slightly crooked but very proud chocolate cake out of the oven. The whole house felt warmer. That cake was the first thing I ever made from scratch, and it set something off in me I didn’t even know existed.
These days, baking is how I slow down, connect with my kids, and pass along traditions my Nana taught me without even realizing they were lessons. She never used measuring cups and always said things like “add just enough milk until it feels right.” I like to think I’ve modernized that a bit—but the soul of it stuck. I’m still all about cozy kitchen moments, messy countertops, and recipes that don’t require perfection, just heart.
I created this space for bakers like me—the ones who may not have fancy equipment or culinary school certificates, but who feel most themselves when they’re whipping up something from nothing. Whether you’re baking your very first banana bread or trying to master buttery croissants (spoiler alert: I’m still working on that one too), you belong here. I’m not here to impress you—I’m here to walk beside you, burnt edges and all.
What you’ll find in my kitchen is a mix of classic comfort bakes, small twists on old favorites, and a whole lot of encouragement. Every recipe I share has been tested in my real kitchen, with my real distractions (aka my twin boys, a mischievous golden retriever, and a habit of forgetting timers). I believe in showing you not just how to bake something, but how to fix it when it doesn’t turn out quite right.
To me, baking is part therapy, part adventure, and part love letter. I hope that when you try one of my recipes, you feel a little more confident, a little more at home, and a little more inspired to try something new.
Thanks for being here. Truly. You’ve got this—and I’ve got your back.
Warmly,
Maggie 💛
